Our Best Places reports are unique in that they use a combination of forecast accuracy from various weather providers and an assumption that the current weather will continue over the next several days to determine locations where the weather is most and least predictable in the short term.

Eclipse Added to Operational HRRR for the First Time Ever This Week
The High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model for the continental United States will now include reduced incoming solar radiation during eclipses for the next 40 years. This addition will be helpful to the energy industry to be able to predict wind and especially solar power generation during the eclipse.

AI-driven Machine Learning Model Forecasts Available on ECMWF Charts Website
Attempts to more accurately forecast weather are beginning to use machine learning technology – or artificial intelligence – more extensively.
Three experimental artificial intelligence (AI)-driven models, though without available ensembles, are now available for public viewing by the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF).

Rapid Flood Inundation Prediction Model Developed in Australia
Researchers at The University of Melbourne in Australia, recognizing that traditional flood models are very time-consuming even though very accurate, have created a new model for flood prediction that maintains high accuracy but takes significantly less time to run.
